UK–Africa Youth Fellowship Programme (Global)

The Research and Youth Fellowship Programme is Food for All Africa’s seventh flagship initiative, delivered in strategic partnership with Food for All Africa UK Centre for Sustainable Nutrition & Innovation. This programme serves as a transformative bridge between the United Kingdom and Africa, connecting young people, researchers, and emerging leaders to real-world experience in sustainable food systems, nutrition, and humanitarian development.

This is a fully funded international fellowship opportunity designed to equip the next generation of changemakers with practical skills, field experience, and cross-cultural exposure in food security, circular economy systems, and community development.

Programme Overview
The UK–Africa Youth Fellowship Programme provides selected fellows with hands-on experience across Food for All Africa’s operations, including:
  • Circular African Food Banking systems
  • School feeding and nutrition programmes
  • Emergency food relief operations
  • Agricultural food loss recovery systems
  • Community outreach and beneficiary engagement programmes

Fellows are embedded within active field programmes, research teams, and innovation hubs, gaining direct exposure to real-world development challenges and solutions.

Programme Objectives
The fellowship is designed to:
  • Build a new generation of leaders in sustainable nutrition and food systems
  • Strengthen UK, Europe and global–Africa collaboration in food security and climate action
  • Provide practical, field-based experience in humanitarian and development work
  • Support innovation in circular economy and sustainable agriculture
  • Promote youth inclusion in global food system transformation
Target Participants
The programme prioritizes young people from both the UK and Africa, with a strong focus on:
  • African, Middle Eastern, and Ethnic minority (AME) backgrounds in the UK
  • Young professionals and graduates in agriculture, nutrition, environmental science, development studies, and related fields
  • Emerging leaders passionate about food security, climate action, and social impact
  • Students and early-career professionals seeking international development experience
Programme Structure
The fellowship includes a blend of:
  • Field placements across Food for All Africa programmes across Africa and the world
  • Research assignments in sustainable nutrition and circular food systems
  • Innovation projects focused on food waste reduction and climate-smart agriculture
  • Mentorship from industry experts, researchers, and development practitioners
  • Cross-cultural learning and leadership development sessions

Fellows are actively involved in programme delivery, research documentation, and impact evaluation.

Through this programme, Food for All Africa focuses on empowering underprivileged individuals—particularly youth and unemployed persons who are capable of working—by equipping them with practical skills, work experience, and access to meaningful economic opportunities.
